Episode 48: More knitting History

Episode 48: More knitting HistoryBootie and Bossy
00:00 / 45:07

What we discussed:

We interviewed the fabulous Michele Lee Bernstein for Episode 47and when she told us about her recipe for lemon orzo pasta salad, we had to give it a try! The recipe is on Michele Lee Bernstein's blog: PDX Knitterati

Bootie made a reference to Bossy's Colonial Ginger Mint Hooch from Episode 14.

Bossy referenced Debie's Killer Sangria from Episode 42.

We continued to discuss Anne L. MacDonald's book No Idle Hands A Social History of Knitting in America, focusing on Chapters 9, 10, and 11: "Old Knitters in New Roles", "Oh say, can you knit...for Sammy?", and "Men and Children for Sammy Too".

Bootie did Google if women still spend most of the household income and according to Forbes, women spend 85% of the household income.

Bootie is finishing up her 4day KAL Astropop with Marie Greene knit with Malabrigo Susurro in Chrysocolla (main color), Whales Road (purple) and Polar Morn (accent). She will be casting on for Caitlin Hunter's Halibut sweater soon! For that, Bootie is using Sew Happy Jane Sustain Corrie DK in Deep Plum and Making Tracks Junction Fiber Mill in Valley Fog.

Bossy swatched! She's making a poncho for her friend loosely based on the Glymur Poncho using Debbie Bliss Piper in Colour 12004.

About the Recipe:

Michele Lee Bernstein's lemon orzo pasta salad is a perfect summer salad. The simple lemon dressing gives it a delicious zing. Artichokes? Yes, please! Asparagus? Yes, Please! Olives? Yes, please! Feta? Yes, please! Change the ratio of pasta to goodies to your liking.

Whatever you do, don't knit like my sister!!

We have a game, thanks to our brilliant children who made it for us! Note that (for now) it is only playable on a desktop computer. Maybe you need a distraction for certain people so that you can get more knitting time? Or maybe you want to play a superfun knitting game? Either way, enjoy!!
